About

Rutledge Carter is a Lowcountry native, whose roots go back hundreds of years in Charleston. She embraces all things coastal and local. The seeds of her design career were planted in her youth, when she would visit family members’ homes and gardens. Family antiques, art, heirloom flowers, and elements of the natural landscape were a visual wonderland, sparking inspiration. Her eye has been magnetized towards beauty all her life.

Rutledge spent a decade working for Coralberry Cottage, a beloved former furniture and design store in Mount Pleasant. Her helpful, patient nature, and love of color earned many devoted clients. She was also the primary buyer and store manager. Her most satisfying work during that time was helping clients create a cohesive space that served their practical needs in a beautiful way. Staging upscale model homes was also a highlight.

Rutledge’s personal design style is a serene background interspersed with bold and colorful elements.

In 2024, with the closing of Coralberry Cottage, Rutledge began offering independent design services. The biggest sellers from the store remain available, including locally crafted heirloom furniture pieces.
